Objective: To know the recurrence and complications of Two Layers Darn with Prolene for inguinal hernia repair.
Material & Methods: This Cross Sectional Descriptive Study of Two Layers with Prolene for the inguinal hernia repair
was carried out from December 2014 to July 2015 in Female Surgical Ward of Fauji Foundation Hospital, Peshawar,
Pakistan. A total of 60 female patients with age ? 18 to 70 years, who were clinically diagnosed to have inguinal hernia,
were included by Simple Random Sampling technique.
Results: The 60 patients included in our study having age ranging from 18 to 70 years, mean age was 35.62 years.
48 (80%) of patients were below age of 50 years. Common presentation was Inguinal or Inguino Scrotal swelling 54
(90%). Number of Left Sided Inguinal Hernia was maximum to be 30 (50%). Indirect Inguinal Hernias 45 (75%) was the
predominant to get repaired as compared to Direct and Pantaloon Hernias. We observed early complications in 10
cases within one month of period. Most common was Swollen Testis 3 (5%). Delayed complications were noted in 12
repairs. Anesthesia of the groin region 8 (13.33%) was the most common presenting complaint. Recurrence rate was
0% within one year follow up of the cases.
Conclusion: Most common presenting symptom was a lump in the groin and its appearance period varied from 1
month to many years. This is due to lack of education regarding surgical repair. Educational campaigns regarding
lump in the groin, its complication and its surgical repair is necessary. Darn Hernioraphy is safe technique to adopt. It
has low postoperative complication and recurrence rate.
